Ways to Give to St. James Episcopal School

Annual Giving Campaign

The St. James Annual Giving Campaign is a tax-deductible opportunity to make a donation that directly benefits the
scholars. The Annual Giving Campaign goes into the school’s operations and makes it possible for our school to offer
its excellent programs and ensures that we continue to excel at educating the leaders for our future.
Tuition alone cannot cover the costs of the education of each student. A gift to the Annual Giving Campaign is the
most important way a parent, grandparent, alumni, or friend can show support for St. James Episcopal
School.

Matching Gifts

Many companies offer matching gift programs to encourage employees to make charitable
contributions. Matching gifts are another vehicle for donors to maximize the impact of their gift.
Corporate matching programs will vary. Prior to making your gift, check with your employer to see if
they have a matching gift program. This can often double the amount of your commitment to St. James.

Endowment Fund

The goal of this fund is to ensure a robust savings account in which the principal will grow from
contributions and sound investments. The interest will provide a stable, long-term source of income to
support faculty salaries, improvements, maintenance to the buildings and facilities, and to financial aid
to deserving students. For more information on the Endowment Fund, and how to make a gift to it,
please contact the Director of Development.

Memorials and Honorary Gifts

Unless specified otherwise, donations made to St. James Episcopal School in honor of, or in memory of,
a family member, friends or loved one, go into the Endowment Fund, which perpetuates the life of the
donation.

Restricted Gifts

Restricted gifts are designated for special programs or specific purchases which may not be included in
the operating budget. Restricted gifts meet a specific need of an academic department, the athletics
program, student life, and/or financial aid. For more information on the specific needs by department or
program, please contact the Director of Development.

Gifts of Securities, Real Estate, and Personal Property

Transferring securities allows one to make a gift to St. James and receive a charitable deduction equal to
the full, fair market value. One also may avoid paying a capital gains tax on the charitable contribution.
Gifts of real estate can have special benefits for both the donor and the recipient. The donor may give
real estate as a current gift and receive a charitable deduction for the full, fair market value of the gift.

Fundraising Events

All independent schools organize ongoing fundraising programs. The fundraising programs for St. James, other than Annual Giving, are the scholar-led initiative in the fall and the “Spring Fling” gala in the spring. The “Spring Fling” is an
annual event where parents, faculty, alumni and friends come together to support St. James while
enjoying great food, cocktails and music. There is a live auction, as well as a silent auction, where
patrons can bid on trips, wonderful merchandise, and children’s art projects.

Gifts-in-Kind

Gifts in kind offset expenses and can include professional services, equipment, computers, and/or
teaching materials that meet the specific needs of the school. These types of donations provide
operational savings to St. James Episcopal School
