The athletic program at St. James strives to cultivate teamwork, sportsmanship, self-discipline,
resilience, and fun! We believe that the competitive and collaborative atmosphere of team sports
is essential to all students – regardless of skill level or prior knowledge of the sport. Students
come to understand the importance of teamwork while enhancing technical skills and learning
game strategies. Experiencing the relationship between practice and improvement allows
students to transfer this knowledge to other areas of life. Students learn responsibility and
develop self-discipline by competing on a team. Sports serve as a venue for students to develop
and display good sportsmanship and respect–both towards teammates and opponents. Through
hard work and dedication, students build character and self-esteem.
All scholars, beginning at the earliest levels, have Physical Education classes and outdoor recess
every day. St. James teams, beginning in the 4th grade, are consistently competitive, playing at
the highest levels and claiming championships in a number of arenas. Team sports include:
volleyball, basketball, soccer, flag football, cross country/track, golf, and tennis. Our emphasis
for all Jaguars in all our athletic programs is that they will learn and enjoy teamwork and
integrity, both on and off the courts!
