  Looking Ahead

St. James is currently accepting applications for 2008-2009.  Early application is recommended as many preschool classrooms have only limited openings.  Placements for 2008-2009 have begun and waiting lists are forming within classrooms that are already full.

Save the Date!

Tuesday - October 14th

This year the 7th Annual H.E.B. Educational Lecture Series at St. James Episcopal School will feature Reverend Neal Jeffrey. Reverend Jeffrey, former All-American quarterback at Baylor University and NFL quarterback for the San Diego Chargers, is one of the most sought after speakers and Bible teachers in America. He is in his 21st year as associate pastor of the Prestonwood Baptist Church of Dallas and author of The Man I Want To Be.

Headmaster's Weekly Thought

For twelve years I have used the Headliner to provide perspective on issues of child development, education, culture, world events, family dynamics and spirituality. At the heart of each article of course, were children – your children – our SJES students. Obviously, this is not the only way to use the Headliner cover page; I chose it. It was my wish to share something of myself with you, to invite adult dialog and to initiate intergenerational conversations.

The teamwork engendered by these conversations has been instrumental in our successes. St. James is stronger today in every measurable way than it was when I arrived in 1996. Our accomplishments have not been accidental or haphazard, nor have they been the work of an individual. Honest and effective leadership must acknowledge the instrumental role played by the follower. Survey the biographies of the world’s most influential leaders and you will quickly uncover periods of failure, not for a lack of ideas, veracity, focus or oratory. Why the failures? In those periods receptive audiences did not gather. Find a leader and followers resonating to the same frequency and you will at once recognize a flourishing melody.

I leave you with the following thoughts and my sincere thanks for your support during these exciting years at St. James! Ralph Waldo Emerson reflected that, “whatever course you decide upon, there is always someone to tell you that you are wrong. There are always difficulties arising which tempt you to believe that your critics are right. To map out a course of action and follow it to an end requires courage.”   It is my belief that in the issues of life, school and community one individual can be right without necessitating that another individual be wrong. The future of St. James is bright.  Persevere.
