Admission Process

St. James Episcopal School began in 1946 with a dream to provide a superior educational environment and, since then, we have accomplished that dream, building a solid reputation for academic excellence. The school motto…”via, veritas, vita”…way, truth, life…encapsulates an educational philosophy that emphasizes development of the whole person.

St. James Episcopal School is a co-educational day school serving Preschool 2-year-olds through 8th grade students. Admission to St. James is based on the availability of space and upon the academic ability and demonstrated achievement of the student. Prior to September 1st of the school year, preschool candidates must have reached 2 years of age for Preschool 2-year-olds, 3 years of age for Preschool 3-year-olds, 4 years of age for Preschool 4-year-olds, and 5 years of age for Jr. Kindergarten or Kindergarten.

To get the full experience of St. James, schedule a campus visit. Contact Mrs. Darla Montaño, Assistant Head of School, for a tour and see why our students and parents consider St. James to be the premier school for a top education in Corpus Christi.

St. James welcomes inquiries throughout the year; however, due to a limited amount of space, we encourage you to contact the school as early as possible.

Apply
Download and complete an
application for admission to St. James Episcopal School. This application can be completed in Microsoft Word and then printed for your signature. Please mail or deliver your application to the school with the required non-refundable $50.00 application fee. If you submit your application electronically, your application will not be considered complete until your check is received by the school.

Required Forms
Supplemental forms from the
applicaton packet will also need to be printed out and completed. These forms include: teacher recommendation forms (to be delivered to your child’s current teachers) and a request for records form.

When students have already been attending another school, recommendations from two of the candidate's current teachers (if applicable) are required on the appropriate Teacher Recommendation Form. These forms should be mailed directly from the teacher to St. James Episcopal School (Attn: Admissions Office).

A Request for Records Form should also be printed, signed, and returned to St. James Episcopal School. This will allow St. James to directly request records from the student’s current school. School records include: most recent report card, standardized test scores, and current immunization records.

Observations
In order to know more about a candidate's own special pattern of social, emotional, and academic development, preschool candidates are asked to come to our campus and to spend time participating in experiences similar to the regular school program while under the supervision of one of our teaching staff.

Entrance Exams and School Visit Day
All applicants for grades 1-8 are required to take a standardized reading and arithmetic test administered by St. James. Applicants are also asked to complete a brief interview and spend a few hours on campus visiting the classroom.

Please return applications and all forms to the office as soon as possible. To ensure your file is complete, please consult the Application Checklist.

Notifications
The Admissions Committee meets as needed during the admissions season to consider those candidates who have completed the full admissions process.

Enrollment
Students have been enrolled only when the annual SJES Enrollment Contract has been signed by the financially responsible parties and by the School. Parents are contracting for the entire year and therefore are encouraged to consider the available tuition insurance. The specific date of premature withdrawal determines whether any of the year's tuition can be refunded.
